Your Opportunity
Join Mission Australia as our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategy Coordinator, where you will play a vital role in advancing our commitment to Reconciliation.
In this position, you will support the development and implementation of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), working closely with the National Manager Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Strategy. Your efforts will help ensure cultural safety and security for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and clients, strengthening our organisation’s impact and fostering a more inclusive environment for all.
Applicants for this position must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, identify as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • Develop and deliver presentations to staff on Reconciliation, cultural safety and related matters
  • Work with our communications teams to promote Reconciliation and Cultural Safety to staff and provide key updates
  • Support the planning and implementation of relevant events across the organisation including National Reconciliation Week and National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) week
  • Support the implementation of the cultural safety framework and promote a culturally safe workplace
  • Support the implementation of the cultural learning strategy and cultural workforce strategy
  • Work with housing and community services to improve cultural safety for clients and tenants
Requirements for Success
  • No formal qualifications required
  • Significant engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people or communities
  • Experience in project and stakeholder management is highly desirable
  • Strong cultural competency
  • Ability to work independently while managing a diverse workload
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Confidence to work with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint is desirable
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
