Thomas Hassall Anglican College is a vibrant P-12 independent College located with close

We are seeking to employ an Assistant Chaplain to provide leadership and encouragement to
develop and assist in the implementation of the College Ministry Plan with a pastoral focus in
our Junior School.

The right candidate will be able to gather, inspire, and engage others to connect with Christian
education. She or he will be an active Christian who understands how to integrate faith and
education in relevant and authentic ways within a Junior School context. The best candidate
will work with the College Chaplaincy team, Christian Ministry interns, staff and students
towards the improvement and innovation of the College Ministry Plan. The role includes a
teaching load (up to 0.5) to be determined in consultation with the Deputy Principal, Head of
Junior School.

Key Selection Criteria
the successful applicant for the above position must be able to provide evidence to support the
following criteria:



  • Strong personal Christian faith and be a regular and practising member of a Bible-based

Christian Church. Demonstrated Christian character and commitment.

  • Supportive of the Christian ethos and independent nature of Thomas Hassall Anglican

College within the context of the vision, mission and values of the Anglican Schools
Corporation.

  • Demonstrate an ability to express faith openly and provide pastoral care support to

staff, students and families whilst remaining sensitive to the religious and cultural
beliefs of others. Have a clear understanding of the issues affecting young people.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).

  • Involvement in church ministries and/or broader mission activities.

  • Bible teaching experience with small and large groups with an ability to clearly explain


Christian values and beliefs.









  • Proven ability to effectively teach Junior School students.

  • A willingness to collaborate and work in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills, critical analysis and



problem-solving skills.


  • Ability to prioritise and work as part of a team.




Qualifications



  • Appropriate Primary teaching qualifications & NESA accreditation.

  • Diploma of Theology minimum, with Bachelor of Theology or a Master of Divinity highly


desirable (or a willingness to undertake further study).

Assistant Chaplain (Junior School)

Primary Purpose:
The Assistant Chaplain will provide leadership and encouragement to develop and assist in the
implementation of the College Ministry Plan with a pastoral focus on Junior School students and
resources. The Assistant Chaplain (Junior School) will promote a sense of Christian community
that pervades all aspects of College life and which provides a safe environment where students
are able to explore their spirituality without hesitation.

This role includes a teaching load in the College to be determined by the Deputy Principal, Head
of Junior School (up to 0.5).

Major Responsibilities
Working with all stakeholders, the Assistant Chaplain (Junior School) will operate in a
professional manner to assist the College Chaplain to improve the outcomes across the
following domains:



  • Christian leadership of the College community in relevant ways and across the whole

range of events.

  • Enhance co-curricular programs that focus on the development of the whole child

across the College, focusing on pastoral care of Junior School students.

  • Provide pastoral support and Christian input in the Junior School amongst leaders and

staff.

  • Contribute to the development of Christian worldview in whole College programs and

events.








  • Perform any duties as is required by the Principal or her nominees from time to time.


Christian Leadership
• Be available for the provision of guidance and advice for students, parents, and Junior



School staff on spiritual matters when required and provide care and support.


  • Lead and supervise the voluntary Christian student groups program in the Junior



School, including training of student leaders and the pastoral care of the staff involved
with groups.



  • Involvement in and encouragement of participation in the worship life of the College

through chapel, professional development and other programs.

  • Assist in the supervision of the College Ministry Interns when required.


Co-Curricular & Wellbeing Programs
• Assist in the development and presentation of quality, Christian teaching segments


within the Junior School assemblies, chapels and other College events where
appropriate. Be able to preach and teach the Bible at College events.



  • Assist in progressing the College strategic plans in the areas of co-curricular and

ministry, including Junior School related projects such as service learning and camps

  • Play a key role in transition of Year 6 students into Senior School ministry groups and

classes, including the possibility of teaching Year 7 Christian Studies.

  • Liaise with the Junior School leadership team to ensure best pastoral care and

wellbeing practice for students from a Christian perspective.

  • Assist in the oversight of relevant outreach events and related student activities where

appropriate.


Christian Studies Curriculum



  • Promotion of the integration of a biblically Christian worldview within the overall ethos,

curriculum and pedagogy of the College that fosters understanding and student growth
in character and faith.

  • Be a member of a team that oversees the evaluation, development and improvement

of the P-12 Christian Studies curriculum.

  • Be responsible for the Christian Studies program and lead Junior School classroom

teachers in the preparation and delivery of class devotions as required.


Staff Development



  • Assist in the shared delivery of the Bible teaching program for all staff in the College,

including at Staff devotions and professional development events.

  • Attend leadership and staff meetings to provide Christian input into decision making

and pastoral support to Junior School staff.

  • Assist staff to apply a biblically Christian Worldview into teaching and learning

programs across all curriculum areas P-6.







Other Responsibilities include:
• Representing the Principal, from time to time, at functions related to the College



program.


  • Teach classes in Junior School with the possibility of Senior School Christian Studies.




The Assistant Chaplain (Junior School) is expected to be present at:


  • all mandatory College events,

  • all mandatory professional development activities

  • all formal parent-teacher interview evenings

  • designated information evenings

  • designated playground duties, sports duties, assemblies, excursions, allocated



committees and camps
