Why this role matters


The Salvation Army (Salvos) provides a wide range of services that support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer accommodation, counselling, support, behavioural programs, and advice to women and children at risk of, experiencing or escaping family violence. Our services focus on prevention, restoration and healing to provide specialised support to address immediate safety issues and provide advice, referrals, and connection to assist the recovery journey.



About the role


We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Family Violence - Support Worker to work with women and their children, impacted by domestic and family violence to support their safety and ensure their rights have been met.



Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a casual position based in Surry Hills, NSW. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.



You will successfully


  • Clients accessing the service are provided with a welcoming and responsive initial contact and urgent and immediate needs are addressed

  • In consultation with more senior worker/s appropriate preventative action is taken in relation to potential high-risk situations

  • Information is provided to assist in assessing and addressing client issues, needs and circumstances

  • Effective relationships are established with clients that encourage self-determination and participation and support them to improve their situation

  • Support clients to implement case plans in accordance with TSA case management models and standards of practice

  • Activities are monitored and clearly communicated to relevant staff for handover




You will have


  • Certificate IV qualification in Social Work, Welfare, Community Development or related field OR

  • Demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills attained through previous appointments, service and study/development

  • Relevant experience in a social service environment, specifically Family Violence

  • A current and valid NSW Working with Children Check
