Indigenous Student Coordinator

Applications are invited for a permanent, part-time role (approximately 0.5 FTE) as an Indigenous Student Coordinator, starting in Term 1, 2025. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a culturally appropriate and sustainable support program for Aboriginal students at the school.

The successful candidate for this role will assist Aboriginal students in their day-to-day life at school – in learning, wellbeing and in participating in the broader life of the school. As a key point of contact, they will also help to build effective relationships between Aboriginal families and the school community. This long-term relationship starts from the initial welcome and transition into the school, through the high school environment and then into future career pathways. Throughout this journey, they will liaise with the families to discuss social and emotional wellbeing, educational progress, and other key educational issues.

The Indigenous Student Coordinator will also work with the team of school staff (classroom teachers, wellbeing and learning support staff, co-curricular coordinators, boarding staff and others) to continue to support individual Aboriginal students, their participation, attendance and ongoing growth and development. They are also encouraged to support the ongoing development of our school Reconciliation Action Plan and provide and strengthen cultural awareness within the whole school community.

The successful applicant will be passionate about education and growing the next generation of Aboriginal leaders. They will be organised, collaborative and an excellent communicator. Applicants should have appropriate qualifications in education, social work, counselling or other key disciplines. They will be committed to the full life of the school and supportive of its inclusive Christian ethos. Previous experience working with young people and/or Aboriginal communities would also be an advantage for this role.

SCEGGS is committed to diversity in the workplace and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
