About the role

The Payroll Officer processes and maintains accurate and up to date payroll records for staff and contributes to ensuring HammondCare meets legislative requirements and complies with relevant Award and Agreement determinations.

This is a permanent full-time position based at our head office in St Leonards with some working from home flexibility.

Key responsibilities

  • Assists in the timely compilation and distribution of pay for staff on a fortnightly basis, approximately 1,000 employees
  • Answer all payroll enquiries in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Produce accurate and timely fortnightly and monthly payroll reports working with Payroll Accountant
  • Provide ad hoc reports requested by manager
  • Provide statements of service as requested
  • Keep up to date with legislative changes with respect to the payment and taxation of wages/salaries
  • Contribute to ensuring HammondCare is meeting legislative requirements through the deduction and remittance of PAYG tax, Superannuation Guarantee and salary sacrifice contributions, and other payroll deductions required as per legislation, staff contracts and requests
  • Maintain payroll compliance with relevant Award and Agreement determinations
  • Process new employee records in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure employee leave balances reflect up-to-date balances
  • Overpayment recovery action and documentation
  • Employee electronic pay files to be up to date in support of all data maintained in payroll systems
  • Work cooperatively with other team members in delivering a professional service to staff
  • Assist in maintaining good relationships with external suppliers, including Frontier Software, Kronos and Advantage Salary Packaging

About You

  • Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action
  • A tertiary degree in finance is highly regarded, accounting or related discipline or significant industry experience is preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a high volume payroll processing role
  • Strong administrative and MS Office skills
  • Computerised payroll and time and attendance system ICHRIS essential
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a large team
  • Strong communication skills verbally and written
  • High attention to detail and accurate data entry
  • Empathy and patience
