Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high-quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

Foster House offers a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people experiencing homelessness in the inner city of Sydney. The service supports fifty single men in a residential setting.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Support Worker to support clients to identify and build upon their ability to function independently.

Reporting to the Residential Support Team Leader, this is a permanent, part-time (29.25 hours per week) position based in Surry Hills, NSW. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Crisis Award Level 1.

Please note that this is a service-based role that could include 24-hour shift work (Days, afternoon, nights and weekends, public holidays).

You will successfully

  • Work alongside the Case Management Team to identify, action and respond to client needs as required.
  • Support clients to build upon their living skills and engage in capacity building.
  • Create a safe space for anyone that presents seeking support/ assistance.
  • Complete reports for incidents, near misses and following policies and procedures to address potential high-risk situations and other work hazards,
  • Identify service gaps and risks, make recommendations for service delivery to the Leadership Team
  • Participate in ongoing professional and skill development to enhance service delivery and practice .

You will have

  • Minimum Cert IV in Community Services.
  • A current NSW Employee Working with Children Check.
  • A current First Aid Certificate.
  • A NSW Driver Licence (desirable).
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Care Framework (desirable).
